AgMnet+ INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL IN AGROMETEOROLOGY AND CROP MODELLING - 2017

SS1 will include lectures and exercises related to the following topics: 
a) Parameterization of processes in soil-vegetation-atmosphere transfer schemes. Application of numerical weather prediction (NWP) in agronomy; 
b) Crop modeling background - principles behind the models; 
c) Managing and generating model input data;  
d) The structure of crop model (AquaCrop, APSIM). How to run crop models, calibration and validation procedures? 
e) Crop model applications for impact studies,
f)  Agrometeorological measurements and application.


Exercises related to crop modelling, measurements and NWP application will take place in parallel sessions from Monday till Thursday.

Exercises related to crop modeling and NWP application will take place in parallel sessions from Monday till Thursday. Models which will be considered during SS2 are AquaCrop, APSIM and WRF ARW limited area model. Participants will have opportunity to take  class in Agrometeorological measurements as well.

Excursion 1:
The Institute of Viticulture and Enology in Sremski Karlovci was founded on 1st April, 1947 by a decree of the People’s Assembly of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina. At the end of 1947 the Institute included fruit growing into its scope of interests. When the Faculty of Agriculture in Novi Sad was founded in 1954, the first sub-department was formed, later to become the Department of Fruit growing and Viticulture. In 1971 the Institute of Fruit growing and Viticulture from Sremski Karlovci and the Department of Fruit growing and Viticulture at the Faculty of Agriculture in Novi Sad merged and became a part of the same faculty.

Excursion 2:
ATOS FRUCTUM orchard lies on 90 ha or high quality and healthy soil, at altitude from 220 to 250 meters. With controlled and intensive production characterizing modern fruit growing Atos initiated a new chapter in apple production on the southern slopes of Fruska Gora. Integral production represents a new, modern method of production based on scientific principles increasing the participation of professional staff and organizations in the production. Integral concept of production includes:
-          Growing single sort plantations or block plantations
-          Selection of quality, certified and virus free planting material
-          Selection of fruit sorts that are tolerant or resistant to illness and pests
-          Usage of the irrigation system
-          Protection of the orchard by anti-hail network
-          Application of the INTEGRAL CONCEPT OF CHEMICAL PROTECTION

ADITIONAL INFORMATION:

For crop modeling exercises participants need to bring their laptop. There are no special requirements about system, except is should be Windows, and you can download and install AquaCrop (http://www.fao.org/land-water/databases-and-software/aquacrop/en/) and APSIM (http://www.apsim.info/)

For NWP application exercises participants do not need to bring laptops.

AgMnet+ INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL IN AGROMETEOROLOGY AND CROP MODELLING - 2016

The objective of the Summer School was to provide the attendees with a comprehensive overview on agrometeorological applications and crop modeling, basics of numerical weather prediction (NWP) and its application in agrometeorology.

The program was open to graduate students (with a first university degree), PhD candidates, early-stage researchers and professionals willing to broaden their knowledge.

Internationally recognized scientists and specialists gave the lectures as well as the practical and lab work.
 
Exercises related to crop modeling (such as AquaCrop model) and NWP (WRF-ARV model) application took place in parallel sessions.

Main emphasis was on puting NWP model products which are not commonly used but can be very useful in agricultural production.

We had 38 participants in 3 exercise groups (Crop modelling, NWP and agrometeorological measurements) from 12 countries.
